Meruliaceae also known as toothed crust fungi or marshmallow polypore is an order of polyporales, class of agaricomycetes and phylum of basidiomycota.
"Crusty" is the best way to describe the fungi of the meruliaceae genus if you are looking for them in the wild. These smooth-topped fungi live on trees or dead wood. All members of this genus cause white rot by causing their host to decay and then taking nutrients from them parasitically.
